One hundred years ago, Davidson College students paid $60 for a year’s tuition. How have things changed since then?

In many cases, these numbers are averages. In 1934 and 1909, for instance, different dorms cost different amounts to stay in, and students ate at local boarding houses which varied in their rates.
As inflation has increased, the cost of attending at Davidson College has risen to meet it. Fortunately, Davidson continues to provide an education that is worth every penny.
The most important part of the Davidson experience has always been the people you meet. Our first registrar, Cornelia Shaw, was known for being a friend to students, being declared “A faithful friend and a true advisor to every college man.” I think that she would be please to see a new generation of faculty and staff caring for students.
