My Dear Sister
Although I ought to be studying; as it is such a beautiful morning and I feel so much in humor for writing that I cannot withstand the temptation. I received your very kind and affectionate letter a few days ago which cheered up my drooping spirits very much expecially since you told me of John’s conclusion. That and that languid feeling of spring which you spoke of either caused me to imagine that I was sick or I was sick in reality for a day or two, but this morning is as beautiful a morning as I ever saw. I hope that you got home all safe and found every

thing in as flourishing condition as Sallie represented them to be. Have Sallie and Richard received my letters? If so tell them that they must answer them before I get our of my writing mood. Did you Sallie tell you that I had commenced French? The exutive committee have elected Mr. Forntis for a teacher We recite two lessons a week to him. We have recited only once yet and I think that I will like it very much. Tis an extra study and only those who wish study it. So you see that I will be kept very busy but I suppose it is best for an idle head., you know, ‘is the devils workshop” I would like to be with you very much now and help you with your garden but I suppose I will not have that pleasure

until I graduate and then I expect that I will have one of my own and a darling little wife too. How did Richard get through with his examination. Ask Mr. Sinclair if he has received my letter yet if so I wish him answer it for I would like very much to receive a letter from him. I am obliged to stop or not know my lesson. Give my love to all of your house hold (I don’t mean to include the darkies) and write soon to your affectionate brother.
