As shown below, the entire region of Charlotte-Mecklenburg grew in the 1980s and 1990s, with most of the population increase occurring in the 1980s. This correlates with the increase in construction of new buildings, most of which took place in the following decade since there was a great need for more residential units and services. Though limited to broad qualitative data, it provides the context in which the various development projects in the town were being completed over the past several decades.
