The original President\u2019s House did not suit Williamson and with the money from a fundraising campaign, another President&#8217;s House named \u201cLouisiana\u201d was constructed in 1850. The house, built where the current <a href=\"https:\/\/davidsonarchivesandspecialcollections.org\/archives\/encyclopedia\/visual-arts-center\/\">Visual Arts Center<\/a> is located, was home to six other presidents until 1901.\u00a0 It was home to Presidents Williamson, Lacy, Kirkpatrick, McPhail, McKinnon, and Shearer. (DC 9-0885)\u00a0 While six of the college\u2019s presidents resided in \u201cLouisiana,\u201d the original President\u2019s House was used as a faculty home for Colonel William J. Martin, Sr (Hamrick) and William J. Martin, Jr.\u00a0 The original President\u2019s House was used again by President <a href=\"https:\/\/davidsonarchivesandspecialcollections.org\/archives\/encyclopedia\/william-joseph-martin-jr\">William J.
