Davidson College Faculty: Please join us May 10 – 12 for\u00a0Dewey\u00a0&\u00a0Donuts\u00a0Open Hours<\/em>\u00a0(between the hours of 9 AM to 4 PM each day).\u00a0<\/strong>Stop by anytime during those hours to peruse the stacks, enjoy a donut\u00a0and\u00a0coffee,\u00a0and\u00a0help us review a portion of the\u00a0Dewey\u00a0Reference collection for items that are important for your teaching\u00a0and\/or research. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please note: If you would prefer to peruse the Dewey Reference before the scheduled open hours, reach out to us. Directions and review slips are located near the Dewey Reference stacks on the first floor of the library. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you might recall from the\u00a0Library of the Future Task Force report, one of the short-term recommendations for the library was to address the library\u2019s 15-year history of using two classification systems.\u00a0Importantly, the\u00a0Dewey\u00a0Reference collection has already been reviewed by faculty several years ago,\u00a0and\u00a0what remains was deemed in need of further evaluation. Over the past several months, librarians\u00a0and\u00a0archivists have been working on identifying books from this collection to be reclassified\u00a0and\u00a0moved to Archives\u00a0and\u00a0Special Collections or to our Library of Congress classified stacks; but a significant number of\u00a0Dewey\u00a0reference books remain for faculty review.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your participation in this process will guide us in our next step, which is to review the 180K\u00a0Dewey\u00a0volumes on the library\u2019s second floor. A comprehensive review of these books will be a large endeavor, but a necessary one as we continue to prepare for our library of the future (it’s on the horizon)! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
