Practice

  1. Select a designer. 

  2. Use any of the resource options listed above to test out.

  3. Be ready to share WHO you researched, WHERE you looked, and WHAT you found with the group after about 7-8 minutes.

Get Started With Google!

The Benefits of Google: 

  • Google can act as a spring board to understanding the context surrounding your designer or celebrity.
  • Are there ads? Ads can be evidence of where your designer sells their work. This is insight about the commerical side of the industry.
  • Does your designer have a website?
  • Any recent news popping up?

Use Wikipedia for Search Terms Inspiration

The Benefits of Wikipedia: 

  • Wikipedia is a great place to gather search terms.
    • Are there any fashion houses mentioned?
    • Major brands, collaborations, or partnerships?
    • What about their education?

The Library Catalog as a Catalyst

  • Something always comes up!
    • You may want to practice using the subject filter on the left to help comb through results.

Translating Search Terms into Databases

  • They allow you to gather specific information, using the general search terms you've already gathered 
    • Experiment with different search terms!
