Title<\/strong>: \u201cI belong here\u201d: Interventions to increase diversity in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).<\/p>\n Abstract<\/strong>: Individuals belonging to groups associated with negative stereotypes (e.g. racial and ethnic minorities, first-generation students, women) are underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), and often report feeling a decreased sense of belonging in STEM educational settings. The projected need for employees in STEM careers requires the participation of a more diverse workforce; thus, the development of effective strategies to encourage those belonging to negatively stereotyped groups to feel welcome in STEM is imperative. The present studies adopt an intersectional approach and examine how access to role models, in a variety of formats, can encourage greater interest in STEM classes and a sense of belonging in STEM environments.
