Kristi Multhaup

The Office of Grants and Contracts congratulates Vail Professor and Chair of Psychology Kristi Multhaup on publication of her research article, Exploring the Specificity, Synergy, and Durability of Auditory and Visual Computer Game Transfer Effects in Healthy Older Adults, in The Journals of Gerontology, August 2019

Articles selected for publication in the peer-reviewed scientific journal “have clear implications for theoretical or methodological innovation in the psychology of aging or contribute significantly to the empirical understanding of psychological processes and aging.”

Davidson College student researchers: Meg DiDonato, Elizabeth Weldon ’18, Richard Miller ’16, Elena Jones ’18, Dionysia Theodorou ’16, Akanksha Das ’16, Yasmin Cruz ’16, with Professors Kristi Multhaup and Vilayanur Ramachandran (UCSD).

Professor Multhaup’s nearly ten-year research project investigating influences on memory and memory changes in older adults was funded in part by a National Institutes of Health AREA – Academic Research Enhancement Award.  This competitive award supported training and active participation in neuropsychological testing and research for more than 70 Davidson College undergraduates.

Bryan Thurtle-Schmidt

The Office of Grants and Contracts congratulates Assistant Professor of Biology Bryan Thurtle-Schmidt on his National Institutes of Health AREA: Academic Research Enhancement Award (R15GM132786).

The $346,277 grant funds the project “Mechanisms of Transport by SLC4 Borate Transporters,” with Davidson College student participation in three years of biomedical research. Experiments will focus on dissecting the transport mechanism of SLC4 borate proteins to understand related diseases at a molecular level and enhance development of new treatments.

“AREA awards provide funding for small-scale, new, or ongoing health-related meritorious research projects, enhancing the research environment at eligible institutions and exposing students to research opportunities.”  NIH typically funds less than 20% of the AREA proposals received for this highly competitive award.

In addition to the NIH AREA, Professor Thurtle-Schmidt also has support for his research from a Life Sciences Research Foundation fellowship.

What is the impact of the government shutdown on research and awards? https://ctl.davidson.edu/grants-and-contracts/ogc/what-is-the-impact-of-the-government-shutdown-on-research-and-awards/ Wed, 16 Jan 2019 15:15:13 +0000 https://ctl.davidson.edu/?p=223 The federal government went on partial shutdown when funding for a number of federal agencies lapsed on December 22. Agencies funded through fiscal year 2019, such as the National Institutes of Health, are not affected by the shutdown. Impacted agencies include the National Science Foundation, National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The best course of action for researchers is to proceed with ongoing research unless notified differently; submit project and financial reports as scheduled; and work with the Office of Grants and Contracts to submit new proposals according to previously published deadlines, and we will process according to the best and most recent directions provided by each agency. New awards or payments will not be made during the lapse in appropriations.

The Office of Grants and Contracts is available for questions or to schedule an appointment to discuss your research at x2181, or mamuchane@davidson.edu. In addition, OGC Funding Opportunities Newsletters and Sabbatical Fellowships are available on Dropbox.
